IDEA Workout Builder – A Review

September 29, 2014
September 29, 2014

chk_01Image is everything. If you want clients to treat you as the professional you are, your workouts need to be delivered in a professional way. A circuit routine scratched out on the back of your lunch receipt is “not that”. Enter, the IDEA Workout Builder.

As a free perk for IDEA Personal Trainer, Business and Premium Access IDEAfit.com members, the Workout Builder is a handy tool that makes you look marvelous by creating professional and professional looking workouts, complete with videos, step-by-step instructions and personalized messaging. Each of your workout creations can be saved, emailed, printed or even viewed on web-connected screens.

So, how well does the Workout Builder work? I decided to take it on a test drive, if you will, to help me with Short & Sweet a new collection of short, intense workouts that will appear from time to time in CheckitwithLeigh. Each targets total body and can be completed in 20 minutes or less. When I logged in at IDEAfit.com and clicked on the Workout Builder, I found over 1300 exercises, immediately available in a wide-ranging exercise library that is completely filterable by body part, target muscles, equipment, or source. A collection of Pre-made Workouts is provided, so you don’t necessarily have to reinvent the wheel. And, if your signature exercise is missing you can upload it, complete with your own video, and achieve a truly customized experience for the end user.

When you are ready to build, it’s a simple drag and drop UI. Easy peasy. After selecting exercises, you can edit the output, placing exercises in any order you want and adding instructions, such as sets and reps. Save it and it’s ready to share with your client. Email it and they can use it on their phone, tablet and computer or print a dead tree version to take along, anywhere.

If you are a fitness pro and not already an IDEA member, consider taking advantage of their 7 day free trial. You have nothing to lose by giving the IDEA Workout Builder a test drive of your own. Your professional image will thank you! end10

Refueling for Recovery

Multi-planar, total body workouts 20 minutes or less. Target the major muscle groups in all three planes of motion. Perform each exercise for 30 sec. Unilateral exercises are 30 sec per side. Keep transitions short & sweet, too, and five complete rounds should take no more than 20 minutes. Enjoy!
