Giving Our Dreams Their Wings
by Leigh Crews
Game On!
This is my inaugural post, written in the spirit of giving wings to a dream.
Dreams are universal. Having a dream is about as easy as breathing. It’s acting to realize our dreams that can prove difficult. For a long time one of my unrealized dreams has been to write. That is, something other than fitness manuals!
I’ve got other stories to tell, some funny, some perhaps poignant. And there are life-lessons-learned that I’d like to share.
Giving our dreams their wings isn’t always easy. We have to put ourselves out there a little. Risk embarrassment, take a chances and expose vulnerabilities. But in the end, wouldn’t most of us rather say we took the chance than played it safe? Do you have a dream waiting for its chance to fly? How are you going to give YOUR dream its wings?
In a Forbes article, The Eight Habits of Extremely Successful Entrepreneurs, Paul Brown writes that successful entrepreneurs don’t necessarily act alike, but the creative process is the same:
- Decide what you really want to do.
- Take a small step toward that goal.
- Pause to see what you can learn from your actions.
- Build off what you learned.
- Take another small step.
Act, learn, build, repeat. Thomas Edison did it 1000 times before he built the first successful light bulb. Sometimes you have to be persistent, too. J
I’ve taken my first step. I invite you to comment and let me know what you would like to read here: recipes… motivational thoughts… an excerpt from one of my fitness manuals….
I also invite you to put yourself out there, risk a little and share your dream with me and other readers, along with your first action step. Let’s support each other in our effort!
I’ll close with the song that inspired this post. For those of you who teach group fitness, I think it would make a great track for studio cycle or walking workouts. Of course, you could just play it when you want to feel uplifted. It’s called…. wait for it….
